Just a short drive from Riga you will find the Gauja National Park. Within the national park you will find two small towns ~ Sigulda and nearby Cēsis. They can be reached by public transport however my recommendation would be to rent a car for two days and explore freely. Summer or winter, spring or fall, you can find a variety of places to visit and things to do for all ages and budgets.
