Get an introduction to El Salvador with this 1 week suggested itinerary. If flying into San Salvador, head straight for Santa Ana, working your way across to Suchitoto, La Palma and finally finishing on the beach at Playa Esteron. Or you can travel overland from Honduras as we did, starting in La Palma and Suchitoto. Public transport is seemingly well organised and super cheap, so we recommend you do as the locals do and jump on the bus! Alternatively rent a car when you fly in and drive yourself, the roads are in very good condition.
