Munich is the heart of Bavaria and is where rich culture meets modern Germany. The city is a historical and cosmopolitan hub for Germany offering edgy art, international cuisine, gothic architecture and of course Beer! It is easy to spend days here but this is a list of the top spots for architecture, food, design and heritage. Munich also has the Black Forest at it’s doorstep so a full day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle is a must. For those embarking on a European backpacking trip I would suggest starting in Munich because of it’s location, transportation links and cheaper International flights.
