Nightlife / Music

Heading to NOLA in a month and looking for some good smoky jazz clubs that have more of a local vibe and are maybe lesser known. Any suggestions on this and good food? Thanks!

Happy to report that smoking is banned in bars and reataurants now. Outside seating may be an exception. Check out offbeat.com for listings. Lots of clubs are not only jazz but rotate acts of different genres. A little of the beaten path not in quarter or Marigny is Chickie wah wah and Little Gem…
Oh yeah food....look up nomenu.com look for contemporary creole. It usually is the bomb. In the quarter Eat is off the beaten path but solid neighborhood joint. Mena’s for excellent shrimp poboy and daily specials, this is a service industry hangout that closes at 6, cheap. Bachannal is a…
OMG rad answer. "Chickie Wah Wah" is now on my bucket list only because of the name alone.
You need to check out Frenchman St. For sure try and rent a bike and bike the city. So many amazing places to check out and way cooler on bikes. Also random spot but a Irish pub called Erin Rose has some life changing blended Irish coffee.
Be super careful biking. Biking is a new phenomena here. Lots of people killed on bikes. Locals are just not used to looking for them yet. If you are going to do it please be very careful. I would stick to daytime. I love biking but i only do it in the park or on the levee. Its not too safe here.
@anna you're a gem and this is all GOLD. I'm pretty into classic jazz but love contemporary as well. For food I like local traditional and also will probably want to splurge one night on something upscale and worth the $$. If you're around when I'm down there would love to connect and buy you dinner for the advice. Thanks a ton for your insight
I added mad food spots during my trip to NOLA but my favorite was a seafood spot called PECHE. Trust me on this one. Enjoy - love that town!
Peche is excellent. Reservation is a must. Link’s other restaurant Herbsaint is very good as well and menu slightly more diverse if dining with non seafood eaters. To get a fancy upscale meal without the dinner pricetag, head to Comanders Palace for lunch. You can get two courses for aound 20…
Hey Anna! Flying into Nola today, would love to grab a drink or dinner with your fiancé if you're around (always enjoy eating with other foodies). Here till Sunday.
