Frenchman Street is where the musicians went to flee Bourbon. It's beginning it's transition to gentrify already but it's still worth a look. As for bars, I'd try Lost Love Lounge, Mimi's, Good Friends, and Balcony Music Club. Magazine Street is also worth checking out for music, bars, and food but I can't remember any names at the moment.
