Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Visiting the Sultan Qaboos Mosque was possibly one of the best things I did in Muscat. It was breathtaking and every corner I turned gave me something new and breathtaking to look at! It was built in 2001 to mark the 30th year of Sultan Qaboos’ reign and a lot of work went into it - it’s a project that the world contributed to make. The carpet is currently the second largest Iranian carpet in the world and took 600 women 4 years to make! The chandelier in the Men’s prayer hall was made in Austria from Swarovski crystals and is the main centre piece of the hall. Tourists can visit between 8:30am and 11am on Sat-Thurs and are required to follow a dress code - ladies must cover their hair and make sure their clothes cover from the neck to the ankles (including wrists) and men should wear trousers and a long sleeved shirt. #free #mosque #sultanqaboosgrandmosque #islamicarchitecture #muscat #oman
