It's no ordinary lake and the deepest and oldest of its kind in the European continent. Fed by mainly underground springs it eventually drains into the Adriatic through a series of rivers connecting to Albania. You can hire a boat and helmsman and spend the afternoon admiring the towns and villages nestled on its populated banks from afar. I unclothed and dived into the warm chartreuse green waters leaving my possessions on the deck for the best part of an hour. Sveti Stefan at Kaneo is one of the most photographed locations of Ohrid and I was not remotely discouraged at adding it to my camera film.
