There are approximately 3 million saunas to the 5.5 million inhabitants of the country and coming to Finland is not the same without experiencing at least one. The whole practise is even on the UNESCO cultural heritage list. During my month in the country I got to see some spectacular customs. I witnessed everything birch leaf thrashing to ten-hour-long processes of heating an age-old smoke sauna, with little more than just an open fire and stones. Afterwards you can take a dip in an ice cold lake, which Finland has an abundance of.
