Stuttgart 21
Stuttgart 21 is an interesting new project spanning about 57 kilometres of railway. The city's main railway station is in the heart of the operation. When it's expected to be finalised in 2026 it will be an impressive feat of engineering and design. As such its development has a timeline worth learning about. Its estimated cost for the plan has only been rising. Currently predicted to reach over 9 billion euros, funding comes from government coffers, the state of Baden-Württemburg, the EU and Deutsch-Bahn. Consequently Stuttgart 21 has been a hot topic of controversy from the perspective of the environmentally, geologically and financially. In 1994 the new plans for it began, but surprisingly, construction only started as late as 2010. Furthermore, the completion dates have been moved a couple of times since 2019. At the moment of writing you face a five minute walk to the platforms from the entrance. Once inside you can dip into InfoTurm Stuttgart, next to platform 16 and scale 4 floors of the station's ongoing development, in miniature. On the second floor there's a cool 3D assimilation from the perspective of a drone taking you through the finished plan. The top floor gives visitors views over the whole station and work unfolding on its long journey to its official opening. #station #architecture #free #project
