Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge
Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge is a 60 metre long stretch of sandstone rock that extends to the Lusatian Mountains in the west. For me it is one of the most dramatic regions encompassing Liberec and towers over the town, separating it from the small villages on its south-western rim. A renowned hyperboloid shaped design hotel cum TV tower, sits on its highest point at 1,012 metres. The position of the structure and ever changing colours of not only the ridge but tower deserves some reverence, especially given its architectural merits.
The ridge boasts, challenging black rated ski slopes in winter with rock climbing and hiking from spring to autumn. You can breath the crisp air and on clear days look simultaneously into Poland and Germany from atop. The weather changes fast up here and would serve you well to take a coat even on the cusp of spring and summertime. I arrived one pellucid spring afternoon and came across a sprinkling of frost and snow with the backdrop of a lush green forest bed below.
