Malindi is an old Italian getaway favourite - and the fact that every restaurant is Italian and that the locals will call out "ciao" before "hello" is evidence of the fact! While I wouldn't call it a Must Do on Swahili coast, it is the best place to catch a plane to Lamu Island (my favourite place in East Africa) from, so you'd do well to spend a night here on your way up the coast.
