The cable car is a unique mode of transportation, designed by a Scottish enigineer who saw a terrible accident as a horse drawn carriage slipped on one of SF’s impossibly steep streets on a rainy day. He devised the unusual system, where an underground cable moves constantly and the cars either attach onto them or detach to brake.
