Kostel sv. Vincence z Paoly
Founded by Lazarists and restored by Adventists to avoid disrepair, the candy red Church of St. Vincence of Paolo is probably the most fetching church in town. This nineteenth century gem was constructed between 1884-1887 by Viennese architects during the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. It is tucked away behind a small grassy bank and would make a pleasant yet quiet spot for a picnic beforehand. This was my second visit and after a courteous 'dobrý den' from one of the caretakers the lady proceeded to open the door to the nave before switching the lights on.
The exterior is adored with pretty white cornices and the corners and columns imported from Saxony. Clearly the detail and etchings don't hold a candle to that of St. Basils in Moscow or the precision or grandeur of Peters in Rome. For Liberec, Northern Bohemia however it does pretty well to merit more than a just a passing glance.
What a shame about the satellite dish on the top balcony!
