Burg Gutenberg
Nestled in the heart of Balzers, the southern most town of Liechtenstein, is Berg Gutenberg. It stands gracefully on a jut of rock, 70 metres over this pretty little settlement. The castle is an unmissable landmark to spot as you enter by car or bus from Switzerland or the capital. Thankfully, unlike Vaduz Castle, this one is accessible. Additionally it is merited by an eye-catching vineyard running up to the entrances. Over the years Berg Gutenberg has seen in many centuries from as early as 1100s.
If you are passing through from the Swiss border town of Sargans it would be a shame not to stop here. At least it's worthwhile pulling up to glance at the view and grab a couple of photos from the car window. From the decent sized Coop you can also get a superb view of it looming above you. Probably it's the coolest sight from outside a supermarket carpark I've had the pleasure of seeing.
