Church of St. Demetrios
My wife and I serendipitously entered this vast church a few days before the Greek Orthodox Easter and by pure luck happened to hear the most remarkable, unearthly, dare I say miraculous, chorus of voices imaginable. St. Demetrius is beautiful on its own, soaring arches, weathered frescos and sparkling mosaics abound. But if you can time your visit to a musical recitation, you will be transported. I may not have understood a word, and would not believed if I had, but absolutely felt this music in such a deep place that I didn’t know I had..
