Photo via Amanda Savage Dreamy Draw Recreation area used to be a thriving Cinnabar mine. Cinnabar is a red mineral used to make Mercury. Mercury poisoning and overexposure can have psychotic effects, which enough miners experienced to nickname the area “Dreamy Draw.” Although the mines are closed, there are still shafts accessible in the park between the Perl Charles Memorial Trail and the Dreamy Draw Nature Trail. The Perl Charles Memorial Trail offers a mix of flat earth and mineral-rich rocky mountainside terrain with narrow, steep passes.
