Hastings Castle
Hastings Castle is one of the most iconic landmarks of the town. The castle dates back to the beginning of the Tudor Times and became a strategic fortification in the run to the battle itself further north. It's almost comical the number of references around town point towards the Battle of Hastings in light of a French victory! In contrast a touching placard on the grounds. The castle was originally built before 1066 when the famous battle took place. It stood for over 200 years before storms collapsed the foundations which in turn crumbled into the sea. Its cliff top remains are all that still stand for almost a millenia. From atop you can get some fine views over the promenade and pier or look back to the dock yard and start of East Hill which stretches all the way to Fairlight further east. Opening times and costs: Entrance to the castle costs £4.95 for adults and is open from 10am to 3pm, 7 days a week. This also includes access to the dungeons. #history #familyfriendly #kidslearning
