Founding in 1969 by Frank Oppenheimer to educate the public about science, the Exploratorium is still one of the best science museums on earth. Having pretty much invented the idea of interactive science, it’s a model for museums everywhere. They’ve been on the Embarcadero since 2013, in a roomy comfortable space with a high-quality (but pricey) cafe, so you can take a break after engaging with super cool science exhibits for 2 hours straight.
