The historical elements of I-F mimic that of Lviv except the fact it's about 400 years younger. Originally it was named Stanyslaviv after the founder but only changed its name in 1962 after it celebrated its 300 years of existence as a city. Ivano-Frankivsk was a Ukrainian activist who believe in preserving Ukrainian culture and language and thus the city was named after him. It has a laid back edge and a saunter down its main streets leave you wondering if anything has changed for decades. The city is layered with architectural styles borrowed from centuries of occupation, captivating in parts and delicate in others. The parks gardens and squares all add to its appeal, not so dissimilar to its older sister Lviv. For most, like myself on my visit, provides a gateway to The Carpathian Mountains. Being here gives outdoor enthusiasts a chance to stock up on provisions and get a good hearty meal down you before heading out into the wild west. #photography #views #architecture #history #free
