Brooklyn Museum
Despite being the third largest art institution in NYC, the Brooklyn museum doesn’t get a lot of tourist visits. That’s a shame because it’s got a huge, varied and fascinating collection. Kehinde Wiley (of recent Obama portrait fame) is featured here, along with more traditional artists like Sargent, Cassat, Monet and Van Gogh. There’s also the famous “Dinner Party” installation by Judy Chicago and a well regarded Egyptian collection. Free on the first Sunday of the month from 5-11pm.
