I couldn't make a list of fantastic beaches on the Swahili Coast and not include Nungwi. I'll be honest, it wasn't my favourite (more later) but it's impossibly to deny its merit. Nungwi is no undiscovered gem - quite the opposite, it is the most touristy part of Zanzibar and it's covered in hotels, bars, restaurants, shops, tourists and beach boys. There is a reason for that - unlike most of the rest of the island, Nungwi, being on the North coast, has very little tide so you're able to swim all day, not just at high tide.
