If you go to Palenque, you should take a day for a nice hike into the wonderful Lacadonga jungle. It is the main jungle in the north of the Chiapas province where live around 8000 different species of animals, insects and birds. The vegetation is impressive but very humid. Be ready for a good sweat, mostly if you decide to choose a more difficult hike. The best is to hire a guide because the trails are not well defined and you can easily get lost and dehydrated.
