Emerald Hill is a conservation area just off Orchard Road which is home to Chinese Baroque houses that were built in the 1900s. The houses have been preserved so well and give you an idea of what life was like as a wealthy Peranakan. Most of the houses have a story to tell that you are able to read on the plaques attached to the homes. The actual Peranakan museum near Clarke Quay was closed when we visited so this provided a good (and free alternative) to learn about the important culture.
