Over St Lawrence Street hanging umbrellas add color to SouthGate, a modern shopping centre with over 50 outlets. The once dismal 1960's style underground shopping centre was knocked down and in 2007 a new lease of life was injected into the bottom end of town. New buildings were constructed in line with the traditional Bath Stone found all over the city. SouthGate is also considered the commercial centre of Bath.
