A giant rainbow on a sky blue background in Stadion could summon a wide range of ideas. My first thought was that it could represent the LGBT pride flag. Perhaps it was an attempt at projecting Stockholm is a gay friendly capital? After doing a bit of research, I found the colours didn't tally. The flag has six strips to the 10 found in this station and purple had not been included. Instead two shades of each colour are used in this wall design. By coincidence Östermalms IP stadium - a stones throw from this stop - hosts the yearly Pride festival. If anything the designers Enno Hallek and Åke Pallarp aimed to extinguish the negative misconceptions about the stations. They were coined as being something along the lines of dark and woeful places in the seventies. By painting a blue sky and vivid rainbow, onlookers would be reminded that the roof of the world is not far away. A local obstructed my lens with some impertinent body language. He then proceeded to spiel off some facts about the station, which I was only too grateful for. There are plaques on the walls resembling giant bottle tops with references to local football teams.
