In the center of the bustling city of Thessaloniki, next to the famous church of Agia Sofia, there is a spot, not easy to see, where the temple of St. John the Baptist is located. The church is distinctive with a beautiful garden outside. Just below the church there is a gallery/catacomb with underground spaces, part of which is accessible to visitors. During the great catastrophe that Thessaloniki suffered from a fire in 1917, most believe it is the only one of the few points in the city that have remained intact.
