Villa Stross
Set directly opposite the steps to the Technical University Stross Villa is easily overlooked. Being on the edge of a bank, behind a row of flowering shrubs; your attention may easily be drawn to the occasional flow of activity outside the Uni. The villa was commissioned by a Jewish textile merchant Franz Stross. His presence there was short lived. Franz made many voyages down the Nile in his lifetime. His home is a perfect representation of the boat he had on the river. In 1938, just before the Second World War, he had to flee, leaving it vacant for sometime. Its pink facade and prominent cornices really bring out the horizontality of the building. Today it serves as the Regional Hygienic Station after being restored in 2000. #clinic #history #architecture #boat #jewish
