Hoi On Café
At the break of dawn, local bakeries and 'ice rooms' will begin their days work. Fresh pineapple buns are taken out trays by trays by pastry chefs to the store front of Hoi On Café, a small family-ran business in Sheung Wan. A golden brown crust with patterns like a pineapple was how the name came to be. The warm crust is sweet while the center of the bun is soft and spongy. Some bakeries or restaurants, like Hoi On Café, will even add a very thick slice of butter to the bun. This version, is nicknamed the ‘pineapple oil.’ #hongkong #food #foodtour #selftour #self-guided #localfood
