[CLOSED] Polpetto
Polpetto, one of several restaurants under the same owner, is a semi-casual, Italian restaurant dishing up modest size portions at modest prices. Being in the heart of the West End the venue and its intimate seating make for a fine evening to salivate and degust before or after a theatre performance. The waiter willingly brought me three wines to sample, having already pondered on the list of the dozen bottles on offer. The Trebbiano I found rather watery, light and airy. I opted for the Garganega, house white instead. Wine was served in thick tumblers, common in parts of Italy, which gave the place a more traditional feel among the decor and furnishings. I ordered the Crab and Chilli Linguine (£8.00) and followed with a tapas size potato and Parmesan croquette. The flavors were rich and generous enough to walk out feeling almost full but sated. It was fitting to find a place that offers good dishes at prices in single figures. The spread of tapas in this copacetic, snug Italian work and sets it off as being a humble place to relax and unwind without the pressure to gussy up. There is no Wi-Fi in the restaurant.
