Ukrainian National Chornobyl Museum
If visiting Chornobyl is not your cup of tea you can substitute the 100 km drive north from Kïev for the museum. For less than a couple of bucks (US) you can walk round this small yet informative attraction. One of the operators called Alexsy, who was at the reactor on the day of the disaster, was delivering a talk whilst I was there, alongside an interpreter. He gave a detailed yet touching account of what exactly happened through his eyes in 1986. Directions: The museum is less than a five minute walk from Kontraktova metro on Khoryv Lane. Ask for directions if necessary as it's not obviously placed. You will know you're close when you notice a couple of small tanks and police jeeps next door! #history
