Locarno
2,300 hours of sunshine per year and a church whose foundation refers to a Marian apparition - all this is Locarno, the hottest city in Switzerland nestled on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore. The small town appears to the visitor as an enchanted country immersed in unspoiled nature, between the lake and the mountains which give it a particularly extraordinary and evocative landscape. Following the narrow streets from the historic center, you can meet the fortification of the Visconteo Castle, dating back to the 12th century, Buildings are many and wonderful, the Town Hall, with its Italian-style arcades and the Civic Tower from the mid-fourteenth century make of Locarno a charming place. But also the old town, with its intriguing atmosphere, the numerous narrow and cobblestone alleys and its pastel-colored houses, is home to some of the most beautiful buildings in the city, the picture gallery (Pinacoteca), Morettini Palace and the Church of San Francesco. Let's benefit from all the beauty of the Camellias Park or a walk along Locarno's Lido. Above Locarno, in Orselina, is the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso, whose foundation refers to a Marian apparition. It is the main tourist attraction of Locarno, with fantastic views over the city, the lake and the mountains. For the more sporty, however, during the winter it is possible to reach Cardada, a well-known ski resort where you can make long descents on gentle slopes while admiring breathtaking views.
