Baptisterium
Encounter 3000 years of history clumped together at the foot of the Albanian countryside - Butrint is marvel. First built by ancient Greeks, dominated by the Romans, taken over by the Byzantines it was finally abandoned by the Ottomans due to an outbreak of malaria. The site is easily reachable from Sarandë and Ksamil and can make for a morning excursion before heading back north along the Albanian coastline. You can weave in and out of amphitheatres, baptistries, bathhouses and various other remains of this predominantly Roman colony which also makes for some pleasant walk through the verdant surroundings. #statue #history #architecture
