Upper Lascar Row Antique Street Market
Sometime in the 1920s, Upper Lascar Street or Cat Street in the upper hills of Sheung Wan, became the core of antique trading where merchants would meet and exchange business opportunities. It was right along the coastline of the island, which has extended well into Victoria Harbor today. Shops are packed with replicas of terra cotta warriors, fine china, lacquer ware and paintings. The green stalls, however, are where treasure hunters could find Chinese propaganda items. A few stalls sell life-size posters of Mao, postcards of the old cityscape of Hong Kong or even old Playboy magazines. #hongkong #market #antiques #architecture #history #free
