Museum of the City of New York
There are numerous intriguing attractions for the dedicated history buff in NYC, but I’d like to give a little extra recognition to the Museum of the City of New York. It’s always made an effort to showcase the history of all its residents, not just the high and mighty. LGBT history lovers will especially appreciate its inclusivity. On a recent visit I caught an exhibition on protest movements, highlighting the struggle for gay rights, a “Germs in the City” display which touched on the community’s response to the AIDS crisis and a room about non-conforming Victorian ladies which featured a brief biography and illustration of a well known African-American transgender woman of the era.
