Bridge of Penitents
As the legend goes, The bridge of penitents was the location a lazy, vain girl called Tekla was cursed by her father for her idle ways. Her punishment was to sweep a bridge connecting two towers of the Mary Magdalene's Church. As she grew old and incapable a fellow witch, Martynka, took over her responsibilities. The story unfolds when she met a wizard in the old town. Having helped him find his wand and glasses, she was granted a wish and requested that Tekla be set free. It was a lesson to all young women with vanity to not be lazy. When Martynka returned to the tower Tekla was gone. The bridge gets busy during peak season although found the queue time didn't exceed fifteen minutes. Entrance to the tower costs 4.50 euros and there is only one way up and down. The stairs are sturdy and not too challenging for those fearing heights given the fact the steps run through the interior of the tower. #bridge #architecture #history #familyfriendly
