This eerie looking villa lies in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains below Výšina viewing tower. It is reachable by car on a small road running off one of the main roads leading out of town. The road has three or four hairpin turns, which cut through the forest before rendering themselves to a clearing. Since its construction in the early twentieth century, it served as a residence for the Liebieg family. It was then used as a sanatorium for people with respiratory problems, then later a psychiatric ward until 1993. The villa is out of bounds and lies in a state of disrepair. Its position and size however, could once have rivalled any such villa of its time in grandeur and opulence. #villa #history #forest
