Saloum Delta
For a delta roughly the size of Sao Paulo you need much more than a just a day to get a true feel for the place. Home to almost 100 species of migratory bird, the park is not simply famed for such fauna. I spent part of the afternoon on one of only two islands in the country, made up entirely of clan shells - Ile aux Coquillages. The island is peppered with baobab trees and offers fantastic views over the delta. You can scour the ground for fallen fruit. Once found, crack them open and devour the fractured lumps of fruit while making a reconnaissance of the rest of the island.
