It's a minute place and feels twice as small as my home town, having the same number of inhabitants - just a touch above 10,000. It's hard to imagine more than a few hundred could reside here. The way it's spread out and its position in the valley give it a very cosy, intimate feel. Being completely hemmed in by mountains it certainly gives first timers a real sense of what it's like to be in The Carpathian Range. Life here is humble. On one occasion I resorted to washing in the river at the bottom of the garden where I stayed after discovering there was no running water from the taps.
