Literally translated to "Old Guatemala", this beautiful, UNESCO listed, Spanish colonial town served as the country's capital from 1543 to 1776, when the city was abandoned after a catastrophic earthquake. Though many historic sites were damaged during seismic events, throughout Antigua's history, many are still preserved today and there's no shortage of civic sites to explore.
