I use sprint from the US on an iphone. Sprint has a free international plan that includes free data & texting. It seems to work well for me without needing to mess with a SIM card.
To follow up on this question you can get a Telcel sim at the airport. Shop is on the second floor beteeen international and domestic areas of terminal 1. Go to booth 1 or 2 and they will get you setup.
