Toubakouta
Toubakouta has an undeniable charm about it. This town straddles one of the only few tarmac roads in the region which runs south into The Gambia from the sizable city of Kaolack; the region's second capital. It is also cushioned on the eastern banks of the Saloum Delta enabling one to experience a cornucopia of flora and fauna. I befriended a local there; owner of a restaurant, hotel and an excursion company. He not only gave me an insight to an authentic part of Senegal but ended up inviting me to his home for breakfast. Streets are unnamed. Goats, cattle and stray dogs roam the rock dust roads and life seems to be very self-sufficient. Locals use the fat of the land and supermarkets are a far cry from the convenience stores in town. On the flip side two substantial sized lodges hang off the banks of the river providing rapid WiFi and sumptuous desserts. Whether or not I was this comes as a disappointment or not Toubakouta manages to gives anyone new to the area a real taste of Senegal's life. I loved it so much I made point of returning. #photography #free
