Fathala Wildlife Reserve
Fathala is a 6000 hectare game reserve containing three of the big five, a term originally capitalised by game hunters in Africa. These include buffalo, rhino, lion, leopard and elephant. Whilst leopards and elephants are absent in Senegal, the giraffe and zebra were introduced to its terrain from South Africa. If seeing large mammals is your prime motive when visiting West Africa then this is perhaps the best place to find it. The reserve is placed just south of the Saloum Delta just 5 kilometres from the Gambian border at Karang. Park rangers are delightful and provide inexhaustible information on the park. Prices are more than fare; 40 US dollars for encountering giraffes, zebras and rhino and other sizable mammals and an extra 30 for walking with lions! One attribute native to this environment are the breeds of antelope which have roamed the park since before its commercial use. Some are timid and whisky spotting them is not difficult catching snap shot of them may be more challenging. #kidslearning #funforteens #park
