Carfax Tower
Carfax Tower indisputably lies in the very centre of Oxford. As with the name of the tower which is derived from Latin 'Quadrifurcus' to mean crossroads, the tower lies in a busy intersection of four roads. It was once the city's main Church as far back as the 12th century. Towards the end of the 19th century the city wanted to make way for traffic and hence only the tower remains.
