Gunnersbury Park
I was filled with awe when I descended on this park. The variety of meadows, boating ponds and ruins of 18th century neo-Gothic remains surrounding allotments make it a park to rival any other in London. Given our unusually hot summer this year the grass has turned tawny yellow. Respectively the colours at this time are profoundly colourful. The well watered lawns around the ponds and lakes radiate lush green while the sun drenched oaks exude hues of browns. In the middle a sizable funfair and an Orangery stand elegantly among picnickers from the Arabian peninsula.
The park deserves an afternoon if only to retrace the location of the former Japanese water garden and glance at some of the buildings left to decay.
