Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery
The Tian Tan Buddha may be the largest bronze Buddha in Hong Kong, but this monastery in Shatin is decked with more than ten thousand life-size and giant buddhas, hence the name, Ten Thousand Buddha Monastery. The temple is perched atop a hill and requires travelers to walk 400 steps through a windy staircase. On the way, visitors will pass by golden buddhas and statues, each with its own distinctive features and comes to symbolize teachings of Buddhism. The monastery has five distinct temples and pavilions, each to house its own goddesses and gods. The complex is remote from the city, but it is a much quieter alternative to other temples around Hong Kong like the Man Mo Temples. It will also take half a day to explore the complex and its buddhas. #tenthousandbuddha #temple #monastery #hongkong #todo #shatin #architecture #pagoda #chinesegods #cultural
