Charles Bridge
Charles Bridge is one of the prime attractions in Prague without a price tag. Perhaps the most photographed shot of this major site is from Letná Park positioned on a steep embankment overlooking the Vltava river. Historically the bridge experienced a number of floods since construction started in 1357 and served as the only connection between the castle and old town until 1841. Whilst it was completed in the early 15th century the statues weren't actually erected until the 1700's and are now replaced by replicas. The bridge is a massive draw for tourists, hence going on a clear, warm, spring afternoon may very well leave you jostling for space. Even on cloudy, wintry days there is nothing but a throng of people. I rocked up at quarter past seven one Sunday morning and had no trouble counting the score of photographers and early risers. Going at first light is without doubt the best time to visit when numbers are few and there is still an air of tranquility. If you stand with your back to the castle you can get a good perspective of the statues along the balustrades.
