Washington Square Park
Spacious Washington Square Park is one of the best spots in the city to soak up some true local culture. You can join in a pick-up game of chess or Scrabble, dine on some surprisingly good street cuisine from one of the numerous nearby food trucks, enjoy the talented street performers or just kick back and people-watch. The park has also been a historic meeting spot for counter-culture types, the very first Gay Pride Festivals were held here in the late 60s and early 70s, and it is still the kickoff point for many a progressive march or protest.
