The Eel Pie Island Museum
Eel Pie Island Museum takes you through over 50 years of musical history of the island since Arthur Chisnall set up 'therapeutic sessions' for the post war generation of musical wannabes. The small rooms of various exhibits are extremely informative, with a perfect balance of text to photos. It was on that very island, 10 minutes walk from the museum, where dozens of great bands we all know of, started out. Furthermore it has up-to-date resources which include news snippets of Trevor Balis, who invented the wind up radio, and tea towels marking the Rolling Stones last appearance to Twickenham Stadium earlier this year. You can also get a true understanding about the fire in Eel Pie Island Hotel as well as how the island got its name. Entrance to the museum is £3.00 for single visits and opening times can vary. As a rule of thumb ensure you're there before 5.30pm by which time they've certainly closed for the day. There is a number on the door of the museum for general inquiries - 07985 750233. #history #gallery
