Staff at Cálem cellars not only give visitors a comprehensive tour of the history and process of port wine but lay on an impressive 45 minute spectacle of authentic fado. After a series of tastings at the sister cellar Burmester, I was elated at the prospect of not only sampling more delectable port but seeing a display of fado right before my eyes. The music is native to Portugal and best experienced with a bit of port in your belly before starting. It's an emotional affair especially once the musicians get in full swing and the vocalist resonates words that once described the hardships of the poor and lost love. The cellars are complimented by technology and display showy screens, which break down key information to newbies in a simple way to comprehend.
