Roberta's
The restaurant is like Narnia. On the outside, it is a rundown, boarded-up wall splattered with graffiti and a strange metal door. But on the inside, it is like nothing I had seen before. The dozens of picnic-style benches were packed to capacity, surrounded by funky fairy-lights hanging on the walls.
With no reservation, we had to revert to Roberta's takeout instead. This was even more busy than the restaurant it belonged to. But, it is a spectacle. The whole process from topping the bases to cooking the pizzas in the wood-fire happens right there in front of your eyes.
The entrance to the beer garden is right beside. With the same hipster decor, the bar leads out of what appears to be an old warehouse or garage. There is a full menu with everything from cocktails courtesy of the talented bartenders to wines and craft beers. It's very laid back with the garden furniture, fairy lights and indie music creating a very chill vibe.
After a forty-five-minute wait, we eventually did get our pizzas. It was sensational. The base had just the right amount of crisp and the freshest of fresh buffalo mozzarella oozed into the sweet, homemade tomato sauce.
Safe to say, I would recommend this quirky little place to anybody visiting New York but DO REMEMBER TO BOOK A TABLE.
